Just for the record, the Lone Star Flag was actually adopted as the national flag of the Republic of Texas in January, 1839. When Texas became the 28th state of the Union in December, 1845, the national flag became the state flag. The flag’s colors are symbolic: blue stands for loyalty, white for purity, and red for bravery. The Lone Star symbolizes Texans’ solidarity in declaring independence from Mexico. Today the Lone Star Flag symbolizes Texas’ independent spirit and is the reason Texas is called the Lone Star State.
